After going 40-42 and watching their season end in the play-in tournament against the Dallas Mavericks, the Sacramento Kings are looking to build out their roster for another playoff run.

NBA insider Michael Scotto reported on Wednesday that the Kings signed guard Daeqwon Plowden to a two-way contract. The team is also considered a front-runner to sign free agent guard Russell Westbrook.

What Plowden Brings to Sacramento

Plowden played with the Atlanta Hawks last season. In six appearances, he averaged 7.2 points and 1.8 rebounds in 12.0 minutes per game. He shot 64% from the field and 52.9% from 3-point range.

Plowden was traded earlier this summer to the Phoenix Suns in a massive seven-team deal which was headlined by 15-time NBA All-Star Kevin Durant being sent from Phoenix to the Houston Rockets. The deal also included the Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves.

Plowden was released by the Suns and was a free agent until signing with Sacramento. At 6-foot-6 and 216 pounds, he might be able to make an impact on the Kings’ roster, which is highlighted by DeMar DeRozan, Malik Monk, Keegan Murray, Zach LaVine, Markelle Fultz and Domantas Sabonis.

Kings Continue to Have Interest in Westbrook

The Kings are interested in adding Westbrook, the nine-time NBA All-Star, to their roster. He would slot into the backcourt alongside Monk, Fultz and LaVine.

But Sacramento has also been mentioned in trade rumors involving Jonathan Kuminga of the Golden State Warriors, which could hold up a Westbrook decision.
