Report: Suns insider says Kevin Durant trade appears imminent

Per John Gambadoro, a Suns insider for Arizona Sports 98.7 FM in Phoenix, a Kevin Durant trade is expected on Sunday or Monday.

“A Durant deal is very close,” Gambadoro posted to X on Sunday morning. “Phoenix continues to work with multiple teams to get the deal they want and I expect it will happen today or tomorrow.”

The upcoming NBA draft, which begins with Wednesday’s first round, is a key date in the talks. Should Phoenix acquire a 2025 draft asset as part of the trade (such as the No. 10 overall pick from Houston), finalizing a deal prior to the draft would allow the Suns to make such a selection for themselves, as opposed to having another team choose the player.

The Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, and Miami Heat are believed to be Durant’s preferred trade destinations, per ESPN’s Shams Charania. Houston, Miami, and Minnesota are the three franchises that Phoenix has spoken with the most during the negotiating process, per Charania.

The Rockets and Heat are the only teams in both of those buckets, so it would seem that Houston and Miami are the frontrunners. A three- or four-team trade would also be possible, either for financial reasons or if the Suns want to flip an asset received from the Durant destination for something they view as a better roster fit.

It sounds like we won’t have to wait much longer to find out.
