Report: Nets among teams interested in Warriors' Jonathan Kuminga

The Brooklyn Nets have made some interesting moves over the course of the 2025 NBA offseason, including trading forward Cam Johnson to the Denver Nuggets for forward Michael Porter Jr. and a first-round pick. After Brooklyn made that move following selecting five rookies in the 2025 NBA Draft, the Nets may be interested in making more noise this summer.

“The Golden State Warriors, according to league sources, have been searching for a promising young player plus a first-round pick in return for Kuminga, should they ultimately choose to part with him in a sign-and-trade scenario,” The Athletic’s Anthony Slater reported on Thursday. The Warriors are currently in an interesting scenario with restricted free-agent forward Jonathan Kuminga, who has yet to sign a new deal with Golden State.

“The Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, Milwaukee Bucks and Brooklyn Nets have also registered varying levels of interest, league sources said,” Slater continued. Kuminga has been one of the more intriguing players to watch this offseason as he was rumored to potentially leave the Warriors for another team that could give him the space to grow as a player as opposed to Golden State’s understandable focus on veterans.

Kuminga, 22, is coming off a solid 2024-25 season for the Warriors in which he averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 45.4% from the field and 30.5% from three-point land. Based on what Kuminga has shown thus far in his career, it make sense that Golden State wants some sort of haul for him and it’s a price that the Nets could pay depending on their level of interest.

Brooklyn not only brought in five rookies that were all first-round picks from the 2025 Draft, but they also have players like forward Noah Clowney and guard Dariq Whitehead, two first-round picks in the 2023 NBA Draft. The word “promising” is subjective so time will tell if the Warriors view anyone on the Nets’ roster as fitting of that label, but if they do, Brooklyn could meet the asking price in exchange for a talented forward in Kuminga.
