Report: Despite visit with Cowboys, former Patriots cornerback won’t sign with Dallas

The Cowboys need to address their cornerback room after Trevon Diggs suffered a season-ending knee injury in December and Jourdan Lewis departed Dallas for the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency.

So when Stephon Gilmore was spotted at the Cowboys’ team facility on Tuesday, it raised the question of a potential reunion between the 34-year-old and the team he spent the 2023 season with.

But according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, the Cowboys won’t be signing Gilmore for the 2025 season. In fact, Dallas News’ Calvin Watkins reported a team official wasn’t sure why Gilmore was at the facility because Tuesday wasn’t a “football visit.”

“We are always looking to make our roster better, which is what I would say about any player,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones told reporters. “We do feel like we got some good corners, but we’re always looking to make things better. Now we have players who we’d like to think love to come back and say hi. It doesn’t always mean because they’re in the building that a deal is in the works, but I think in general our player acquisition I always say it’s year-round.”

In his lone season with the Cowboys in 2023, Gilmore started all 17 games and had two interceptions and 13 passes defended.
