It’s not that long ago that Michael Chavis was an MLB home run hitter.
But now he’s taking his talents across the Pacific.
Reports out of Japan indicate that Chavis is going to sign with the Chunichi Dragons.
Chavis is currently an MLB free agent.
He was a first-round pick of the Red Sox in 2014. He made his MLB debut for Boston in 2019 and ended up hitting 25 homers for the Red Sox across three partial seasons.
He then spent two seasons with the Pirates and a year with the Nationals, which was his last MLB time in 2023.
Chavis has a career MLB average of .238 to go with 42 homers in 357 games.
He spent 2024 split for the Triple-A teams in Charlotte and Tacoma.
This season, he had played 63 games for the Oklahoma City Dodgers in Triple-A, hitting 21 doubles and 13 homers with a .291 average.
Chavis will likely hit well in Japan, and maybe it’ll give the 29-year old one more chance to come back to MLB at some point. For now, though, he’s heading a long way from his hometown of Atlanta.
