Ravens Making Case for Best Roster in Franchise History

The Baltimore Ravens’ first-round hot streak has helped build one of the best teams in football. Quarterback Lamar Jackson is the engine of it all, but receiver Zay Flowers, center Tyler Linderbaum, safety Kyle Hamilton, and corner Nate Wiggins all look like stars.

Throw in an elite running back like Derrick Henry and a trade for linebacker Roquan Smith, and the result is a perennial Super Bowl contender.

The ring hasn’t come yet; a series of heartbreaks have come first. But if Baltimore finally raises a banner with Jackson under center, the team would immediately be considered one of the top teams in franchise history.

Likewise, additions to the Ravens’ offense have caused a debate about Baltimore’s best roster ever.

“We know how great the tandem of Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry is, but the depth in several areas is what makes me so confident,” Jared Pinder wrote for Russell Street Report. “Two of the more important pieces will be Zay Flowers and Isaiah Likely.

“Zay, at this point, is a true WR1 and no, you can’t argue that. He is everything that Hollywood Brown was supposed to be and more, and he might be the most talented receiver drafted by the Ravens. As for Likely, he might be the most underrated offensive player in the NFL. The guy could be a TE1 with any other team right now, and I do believe he should be that over Mark Andrews at this point. Let Mark be the big red zone target, and let Likely be the number one weapon at TE.”

Baltimore’s firepower is unique given its consolidation. Flowers is the only star-level receiver, but two high-quality tight ends mesh well with how often the Ravens like to run the ball.

Rashod Bateman is no slouch, either. And by adding veteran DeAndre Hopkins, the passing offense is insulated, even if he is far from the peak of his powers. In the right role, his skill set can still be amplified.

“When he is the third receiver on your depth chart – and maybe even the fifth option in the passing game – yeah, that’s deep,” Pinder wrote. “There are a lot of mouths to feed on offense, but Hopkins will get his targets. If he is great, this offense is basically unstoppable.”

This could very well be the best offense of the century for Baltimore. In terms of the best roster ever, though, a Super Bowl team with Ray Lewis and Ed Reed probably takes the cake.

Merely being in those conversations means good things are ahead for the Ravens. Jackson, once again, has the tools to win a Super Bowl. It may simply be a matter of time.
