The 2025 free agency period pretty much over, but it’s never too late to look at the impending talent set to hit the open market in 2026.
The Los Angeles Rams don’t have many impending free agents, with only 20 players entering the final year of their contracts, per Over The Cap. Now, this number could easily change if the Rams extend players early. But for now, the Rams will have some time to make some decisions on their players.
One such player is running back Kyren Williams, who the Rams have already reportedly talked with about contract extension negotiations. Sports Illustrated‘s Matt Verderame ranked Williams as the No. 9-best impending free agent for 2026, with a slim likelihood that he actually leaves. Derrick Henry was the only running back ranked ahead of Williams, whereas Buffalo Bills running back James Cook ranked right below Williams at No. 10.
“Only 24 years old, Williams has racked up a pair of 1,100-yard seasons for the Rams,” Verderame wrote. “And in Sean McVay’s offense, he’s always going to be valued considering McVay’s emphasis on a balanced attack. While Los Angeles has some expensive pieces on the roster, the cap sheet is clean enough to easily pay Williams, as the Rams rank 10th in 2026 cap space.”
Williams already expressed interest in staying with the Rams for his entire career, but it’s up to the front office whether or not they resign him. The Rams spent lavishly to keep running back Todd Gurley in 2018 after L.A. handed him a lucrative four-year deal worth $14.375 million a year, only to cut him two years into the contract.
We’ll see if the Rams repeat history or try a different approach. The 2025 NFL Draft features a bounty of good running backs and the Rams spent a 2024 third-rounder on Blake Corum a year ago.
