Raiders DL Has Message for Teammates Following Christian Wilkins Question

Raiders DL Has Message for Teammates Following Christian Wilkins Question originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Christian Wilkins is no longer a Las Vegas Raider, and there appear to be several reasons why that’s the case. The team only said that they didn’t have a path forward with him, but there has been a lot of come-up.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that there was an incident where Wilkins kissed a teammate on the head without their permission, which became a human resources issue. The Raiders are doing their best to avoid the topic, but it seems more complex than a dispute over how to handle his injury rehab.

“I have no comment to make,” head coach Pete Carroll told reporters on Tuesday. “We made a decision on what we’re doing, and we’re moving with it. We’ll see how that all unveils itself in time.”

Adam Butler Addresses Wilkins Situation

Carroll hasn’t been with the Raiders long enough to know Wilkins that well, but defensive tackle Adam Butler was with him last season. He avoided directly addressing the Wilkins situation, but he did have some interesting comments.

“We pretty just kind of moved on from the situation,” Butler told reporters on Tuesday. “I really don’t want to comment further on it, but I will say that, whatever you’re going through as a person, athlete, non-athlete, whoever, whatever your struggle is, if you’ve got something going on in life, just talk to somebody. Get some therapy. Whatever your deal is, is your deal. Somebody out there in this world full of billions of people is willing to listen. They’re willing to listen, hear you out and help work through whatever you need to work through, but don’t make any hasty decisions. Get help.”

What Do These Comments Mean?

It’s certainly notable that Butler decided to highlight mental health needs when talking about Wilkins. There has to be more to the story because Butler easily could’ve gone the Carroll route and said nothing.

There’s likely more to come out about this situation in the future.
