Raja Jackson, the son of former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, allegedly assaulted a professional wrestler during an independent wrestling match.

On Saturday, Aug. 23, the MMA fighter, 25, appeared to knock out independent wrestler Stuart Smith, also known as Syko Stu, before punching him multiple times in the head at the Knokx Pro Wrestling event in Los Angeles. The incident was captured live on the streaming platform Kick.

In the disturbing footage, Raja was seen entering the ring and picking up Smith above his head before slamming him hard on the mat. He then appeared to punch Smith in the head multiple times as he lay motionless on the ground. Raja was eventually held back by a group of other wrestlers in the ring.

A reporter for the wrestling news website, Fightful, claimed the fight between Raja and Smith was planned, however, Raja’s heavy punches were unexpected.

“Based on what I’ve heard, the spot with Raja Jackson at Knokx Pro Wrestling was planned,” Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp wrote on X. “However, Raja Jackson knocked the person out — ring name Syko Stu -– and followed up with a lot of heavy punches to Syko Stu, which were not planned to do that kind of damage.”

Smith was reportedly sent to the hospital with serious injuries following the incident.

Raja’s violent outbreak allegedly stemmed from a heated exchange between him and Smith that was seen in earlier footage. Smith appeared to slam a canned drink at Raja’s head before the match.

Rampage, 47, apologized on behalf of his son in a statement on X as he confirmed that Smith is now “awake and stable.”

“Raja was unexpectedly hit in the side of the head by him moments before Smith’s match. Raja was told that he could get his ‘payback’ in the ring, I thought it was a part of the show,” he wrote. “It was bad judgment, and a work that went wrong.

“Raja is an MMA fighter, not a pro wrestler and had no business being involved in an event like this,” Rampage continued. “I don’t condone my son’s actions AT ALL! He suffered a concussion from sparring only days ago and had no business doing anything remotely close to physical contact.”

“As a father, I’m deeply concerned with his health AND the well-being of Mr. Smith .. I’m very upset that any of this happened, but my main concern now is that Mr. Smith will make a speedy recovery,” Rampage concluded.

PEOPLE has reached out to Rampage’s representatives and Knokx Pro for comment.
