With the NFL offseason now behind us and training camp on the horizon, based on what we know at this time, let’s project what the Jacksonville Jaguars’ starting offense could look like come Week 1.
Now, to state the obvious, a lot can change here based on what happens over training camp. In addition to that, the information we do have based on what took place during OTAs and minicamp is still relatively limited, so guesswork is still very much a part of this equation.
Quarterback: Trevor Lawrence
Following the conclusion of minicamp, Lawrence discussed the growth and progress he has made this offseason within Liam Coen’s offense.
Running back: Tank Bigbsy
This will be one of the more intriguing positional battles this summer. The reason I’m choosing Bigsby right now is that I see him getting the most opportunities. My guess is that, as a rookie, Bhayshul Tuten is eased in while Travis Etienne has more of a niche role, either in the passing game or from certain formations, like shotgun, where he can get the ball in space. Also, a new rushing metric showcases why Bigsby could be in store for a big season.
Wide receiver: Brian Thomas Jr., Travis Hunter, Dyami Brown
No surprises here. And we know that Parker Washington will be the fourth wideout. The questions at this position for the Jaguars are whether they keep five or six receivers on the active roster and who earns those roles?
Tight end: Brenton Strange
Again, no surprises here. We will see two tight end sets under Liam Coen, so how that playing time shakes out between Hunter Long, Johnny Mundt, and Quintin Morris will be worth watching.
Offensive line: Walker Little, Ezra Cleveland, Robert Hainsey, Patrick Mekari, Chuma Edoga
There has been a lot of mixing and matching up front as the Jaguars search for their best starting five combination. So, trying to pinpoint what this unit will look like isn’t easy. For the most part, I think this is as most would expect it to be. The one change is that Edoga takes over at right tackle over Anton Harrison.
ESPN’s Michael DiRocco recently reported that Edoga and Harrison were sharing starting reps during offseason programs. DiRocco also noted that rookie Wyatt Milum is competing with Ezra Cleveland, but that Cleveland still has the “early edge.”
