Prep roundup: P-W, Mason, Portland St. Patrick baseball record sweeps

BASEBALL

PORTLAND ST. PATRICK 6, FOWLER 2 / PORTLAND ST. PATRICK 3, FOWLER 0

Brayden Simon and Brady Leonard each delivered strong pitching performances while leading the Shamrocks to a doubleheader sweep.  Simon struck out eight and gave up an unearned run in St. Patricks’ 6-2 win, while Leonard allowed just two hits and struck out nine over six scoreless innings in the 3-0 win. Logan Howe had two doubles and three RBI in the sweep, while Charlie Thelen had a home run and two RBI in the 6-2 victory,

MASON 11, HASLETT 1 / MASON 5, HASLETT 1

Maddox Armour picked up three hits and two RBI to help push the Bulldogs to a pair of CAAC Red victories over Haslett. Colton McCaleb and Ryan Myers each picked up a win and Carson Chapin racked up three RBI for Mason. Casey Kueffner finished with three hits and Ayden Smith chipped in two hits and a run scored for the Vikings.

PEWAMO-WESTPHALIA 5, LAINGSBURG 3 / PEWAMO-WESTPHALIA 4, LAINGSBURG 3

Trey Nurenberg picked up the win in game one with 12 strikeouts to help the Pirates outlast Laingsburg for a pair of CMAC wins. Brayton Thelen notched the game-winning RBI in game two, Logan Drysdale went 3-for-4 with a RBI and Nolan George and Alex Drysdale each grabbed a RBI for Pewamo-Westphalia.

FOWLERVILLE 17, EASTERN 0 / FOWLERVILLE 24, EASTERN 3

Tyler Ray and Cody Cruz each picked up victories on the mound to lead the Gladiators to a CAAC Red sweep over Eastern. Ryan Perras finished with a double, a triple and six RBI, Travis Wroblewski went 3-for-3 with four RBI and Jacob Jardies added on two RBI and three stolen bases for Fowlerville. Raphale Vazquez tallied a double and two RBI for the Quakers.

LANSING CATHOLIC 14, WILLIAMSTON 8

Alex Fernandez went 4-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and four RBI to lead the Cougars to a nonleague home victory over Williamston. Jack Grill picked up the win and added two hits with a RBI, Drew Tolfree finished with three RBI and three runs scored and Elijah Jungwirth chipped in three hits and two RBI for Lansing Catholic (12-3). Hunter VanSickler and Brayden Johnson each tallied a RBI for the Hornets.

ST. JOHNS 13, OKEMOS 3 / OKEMOS 8, ST. JOHNS 6

Jimmy Pignataro picked up the victory in game two to help the Wolves split the nonleague double-header with St. Johns. Henry Schnelker notched the save in game two and Carter Haremski notched two RBI for Okemos (16-7). Seth Shank secured the game one victory and notched four hits with two RBI and Kyle Lockwood added on five hits and three RBI for the Redwings (13-8).

SOFTBALL

LANSING CATHOLIC 13, WILLIAMSTON 3 / LANSING CATHOLIC 15, WILLIAMSTON 9

Zoey Gruber picked up a pair of pitching wins with 15 total strikeouts and hit a homer and drove in five runs while leading the Cougars (10-6) to a nonleague doubleheader sweep of Williamston. Taylor Dunneback had six RBI and Avery Dunneback drove in four runs in the doubleheader for Lansing Catholic, while Katy Howard went 5-for-7 with a home run, double and five RBI. Alyssa LaConte went 7-for-9 in the doubleheader with three RBI for the Cougars. Keira Heathcock and Julia Belloli each had two hits in the Game 2 loss for Williamston (15-6).

LAINGSBURG 11, PEWAMO-WESTPHALIA 6 / LAINGSBURG 13, PEWAMO-WESTPHALIA 0

Addyson Buchin picked up both wins in the circle and went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBI as the Wolfpack notched a CMAC sweep over Pewamo-Westphalia. Harper Strouse racked up a team-best six hits with a home run and four RBI, Makenna Johnston notched four RBI and Savvy Stirm added three hits and two RBI for Laingsburg. Summer Wirth tallied two hits and a RBI and Taylor Nurenberg chipped in two RBI for the Pirates.

EATON RAPIDS 6, FOWLERVILLE 1 / FOWLERVILLE 5, EATON RAPIDS 3

Kalli Ordiway went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Ari Brooks struck out 11 and scattered just three hits in seven innings while helping Eaton Rapids to an opening win over Fowlerville. Makenna Maybee and Tommi Kleinschmidt each had two hits and an RBI to help Fowlerville win the finale.

BOYS GOLF

CAAC WHITE JAMBOREE

Reid Blasius and Peyton Edick each tied for second with a score of 39 to help Charlotte pick up the CAAC White Jamboree win at Royal Scot. Lansing Catholic finished second with a score of 166 as Hayden Riley finished as the medalist with a round of 38, Cole Thrun shot a 40 for Lakewood as it placed third (173) and Carson Schmid shot a 39 for Ionia (174).

SOCCER

OVID-ELSIE 3, BIRCH RUN 0

BIRCH RUN — Madalynn Bushard had a goal and an assist for the Marauders in their MMAC road win over Birch Run. Dannika Campbell and Ava Sweet each added goals ad Sarah Newman recorded her fourth shutout for Ovid-Elsie (9-3-1, 8-0).
