Portal Surprise: LSU baseball misses on elite shortstop transfer, losing to ACC program

LSU baseball missed on one of its top transfer portal targets as shortstop Jarren Advincula committed to Georgia Tech. Tennessee also made a push for Advincula, but the star infielder opted to remain in the ACC.

In two seasons with the Golden Bears, Advincula hit .334 with an .890 OPS. He hit 11 homers and stole 21 bases while flashing the glove in the field.

Advincula would have been the third infield addition of the portal cycle for LSU after the Tigers already earned commitments from Brayden Simpson and Seth Darder — two third basemen. But LSU is losing three of four starters from the 2025 infield and it’s a position of need.

Here’s what college baseball analyst Peter Flaherty III had to say about Advincula’s commitment:

“More on Advincula’s commitment to Georgia Tech: He’s a legitimate program-changer, there really isn’t another way to put it. On-field ability is special, but he sets the standard from a makeup/leadership standpoint.
