General manager Mike Borgonzi has done a great job overhauling the roster in his first offseason with the Tennessee Titans. He planned to rebuild the Titans and has carried that out throughout free agency and the 2025 NFL draft.
While his accomplishments have been impressive, there is still much to be done before the Titans are legitimate contenders. Tennessee lacks depth, and there are still holes that could be addressed at multiple positions.
As the team moves into minicamp and offseason work leading into training camp, some free agents could still fill a void on the roster. Cornerback, edge, offensive tackle, and inside linebacker all come to mind, where a lack of depth could become an issue.
Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus (PFF) sees the same thing and points out one of those areas as the Titans’ most significant remaining need.
TENNESSEE TITANS: LINEBACKER
The Titans’ five main linebackers last season — Kenneth Murray, Ernest Jones, Jerome Baker, Jack Gibbens, and Luke Gifford — accounted for more than 1,700 total snaps. All five are off the roster heading into the 2025 campaign. Cody Barton joined from Denver to start at one of the linebacker spots, and Otis Reese IV could be the other starter, though he played just 88 snaps last year.
Tennessee does have some young and inexperienced talent at the linebacker position, but they enter 2025 as question marks next to Barton. If training camp started today, Reese would battle with Cedric Gray, James Williams, and undrafted rookie free agent David Gbenda for playing time.
With some solid options still on the market, the Titans might be best served in the short term by adding a veteran to the roster to help the young guys along. They have salary cap space, which could help set them up for long-term success.
