Penn State football’s special teams depth has taken a hit.
Nittany Lion kicker Chase Meyer will enter the transfer portal, he announced on X on Thursday afternoon.
Meyer spent just one season with Penn State after transferring in from Tulsa last offseason to compete for the starting job. Before Tulsa, he spent a season at UPenn.
When Sander Sahaydak was benched following a poor start to the season, Meyer battled with Ryan Barker to take over the starting role, but Barker prevailed.
With Barker set to return and likely retain his spot, Meyer wasn’t expected to see any action this season. With just two years of eligibility remaining, it makes sense for the veteran to hit the portal in search of a starting opportunity elsewhere.
Meyer’s only college action came in 2023 with the Golden Hurricanes when he drilled 17 of 20 field goals, including a long of 47. He also went 30-for-31 on extra points that season.
Meyer joins linebackers Ta’Mere Robinson and Beckham Dee, cornerback Jon Mitchell and guard JB Nelson as Penn State players who’ve entered the transfer portal this offseason. So far, only Robinson has found a new destination, landing at USC.
Forever grateful to Coach Franklin and the staff for the opportunities I have had here at Penn state. Happy Valley will always be special to me and a second home. However, I will be graduating this summer and will be entering the transfer portal as a grad transfer with 2 years pic.twitter.com/PQmkCiVg4J
