Peculiar Detail About Shedeur Sanders Emerges from Browns Training Camp originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Shedeur Sanders came into the NFL with sky-high expectations and not just from fans, but from his own camp, too. There was real buzz about him going No. 1 overall in the draft, and the Sanders family seemed confident the call was coming early.
But as the rounds rolled on and names were announced, Shedeur waited … and waited. Eventually, the Cleveland Browns took a flier on him in the fifth round at No. 144. Now, just when it looked like he might have a shot to prove everyone wrong, early reports out of Browns training camp suggest things aren’t exactly going his way.
According to reports, Sanders has been seen throwing passes to members of the staff at times rather than players. Aaron Goldhammer of ESPN Cleveland said in a recent podcast, “Shedeur Sanders apparently is throwing not to receivers but to equipment guys. They have got equipment guys snapping him the ball and then also running the routes. Mahomes is throwing to Kelce, Shedeur is throwing to equipment guys.”
While it might sound strange, throwing passes to equipment staff was a reflection of the team’s lack of receivers compared with the crowded quarterback room, according to Browns reporter Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.
“Reps have been stretched out for the skill positions with 4 QBs and at times, Sanders might not be in the rotation for individual drills. So, that’s why you’ve seen that,” Oyefusi posted on X.

The two speeding tickets he picked up in June might not be the best look for Sanders, but they aren’t likely to hurt his chances of starting in Week 1.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski said there’s no set plan yet for the QB spot, but he wants clarity sooner rather than later. Even if Sanders doesn’t land the starting gig, GM Andrew Berry made it clear there’s still a solid chance he sticks on the roster.
