Patriots legendary OL weighs in on Will Campbell debate ahead of draft

Former New England Patriots seven-time Pro Bowl guard Logan Mankins isn’t ready to count LSU’s Will Campbell out as an NFL offensive tackle because of arm length.

One of the biggest talking points leading up to the 2025 NFL draft is whether Campbell would be better off as a tackle or guard given his 32-inch arms.

There are some who believe that shorter arms work to Campbell’s disadvantage. However, Mankins views it from a different perspective, as he told ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

“It’s a definite benefit. I would have taken longer arms,” Mankins said. “At tackle, some of those D-ends, you look at their arms and ‘holy smokes’ — they’re super long. You want to keep those guys away from you. The longer the arms the better.

“But there’s also guys with shorter arms who had great careers and were great football players. It’s a bonus to have the long arms, but the guys that know how to play well, they figure it out if they have a little bit of shorter arms.”

Campbell would certainly help stabilize the Patriots’ offensive line.

Protection was an issue last season, and it put quarterback Drake Maye in difficult situations as a rookie. Physicality, durability and incredible athleticism are three traits Campbell brings to the table.

All three would work wonders at a left tackle position the Patriots have spent years trying to fill long-term.
