Patrick Mahomes isn’t carrying the Chiefs’ crushing Super Bowl loss with him into next season.

The 29-year-old quarterback — who apologized to Chiefs fans for letting them down after the Eagles squashed them in New Orleans on Feb. 9 — said he’s “just ready to play football again” during an interview with Up & Adamsreleased on Monday, July 7.

“Whenever you lose, you kind of have this taste in your mouth that you want to go out there and revenge that, or whatever you want to say,” Mahomes began. “I feel like I’ve had to sit back and just listen to people talk and talk, and I’m like, ‘Let’s just play football and just handle it all out there.'”

“I don’t really want to talk about it,” Mahomes said. “I just want to go out and show who we are as the Kansas City Chiefs.”

After the Chiefs lost to the Eagles earlier this year, Mahomes took responsibility for not playing his best. “I didn’t think I played to my standard just with especially the struggles that I had earlier in the season. There’s things I have to get better at and they kind of showed today on the biggest stage,” he told reporters in February, adding, “I have to learn from that and have to try to be better at the next opportunity I hopefully get.”

The upcoming NFL season will be a big one for the Chiefs, as it could be the last for Mahomes’ teammate and close friend Travis Kelce. After the Chiefs loss in February, Mahomes said he wasn’t sure whether or not Kelce, 35, would return to play another season with the team.

Kelce announced his return to the Chiefs shortly after, but in a recent podcast interview, the tight end said he’s only focusing on the upcoming season and isn’t sure if he’ll retire.

“I mean…it’s the last one on the contract,” Kelce said when asked if it’s his last. “I’m focused on this one, man.”

Kelce added that he’ll need to see how he feels at the time. “I don’t know what next year’s going to feel like, I don’t know what I’m going to feel like in March or April next year,” he explained.

The Chiefs will kick off their regular season on Sept. 5 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
