The Green Bay Packers used the open roster spot created when Jaire Alexander was released to sign defensive lineman Cameron Young, a fourth-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in the 2023 draft. The team announced the signing on Tuesday.
Young, the 123rd overall pick in 2023, played in 17 games for the Seahawks over the last two seasons, including 16 as a rookie. He played in only one game after being placed on the PUP list due to a knee injury to open the 2024 season. The Seahawks waived Young on April 23 before the 2025 NFL draft.
Young is 6-3 and 304 pounds and a possible nose tackle option for the Packers.
As a rookie in 2023, Young produced 12 stops and three pressures across 201 snaps. As a collegiate player, Young was limited as a pass-rusher (34 pressures across 556 pass-rushing snaps) but did produce 40 stops against the run during his final two seasons.
Lance Zierlein’s draft profile of Young from NFL.com: “Naturally powerful prospect who is able to take on capable challengers and come out in good shape despite playing with an elevated pad level. Young plays with early hands and a heavy punch to gain positioning quickly against single blocks. He has the core power and contact balance to force double teams to work. Also, he does a nice job of fighting against wash-down blocks and maintaining gap integrity against zone. He has the size, length and strength to become a proficient run defender but offers very little as a pass rusher. While Young will be seen as a natural nose tackle, he could see snaps as a 5-technique as well.”
The Packers are attempting to replace nose tackle TJ Slaton — who left in free agency — along the defensive line.
Young will wear No. 78 with the Packers.
