The Green Bay Packers appear to be just one piece away from completing their roster — and that missing piece is undoubtedly a veteran pass rusher. While the team has made a few notable additions in recent seasons, the pass rush remains largely unproven.
“Even though the Packers struck gold last season with Javon Bullard and Evan Williams, they cannot depend on Sorrell and Oliver to be instant contributors from Day 1. Therefore, it would be best for them to bring in a veteran before training camp begins later this month, as they still don’t know what former first-round pick Lukas Van Ness is,” Dairyland Express’ Jovan Alford wrote.
Green Bay has been linked to Wisconsin native T.J. Watt, with some believing a homecoming could realistically happen.
“I’m gonna make TJ Watt happy, the player, hey, come home to Wisconsin,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said. “Play for the hometown, home area Packers. The Green Bay Packers are actually low key looking at the pass rush market around free agency, potential trades, potential signings. They have some new cap space after they moved on from Jaire Alexander, the star cornerback. Why not use that money and make TJ Watt the highest paid edge rusher?”
However, FanSided’s Cody Williams believes the Packers could be targeting a different star edge rusher — Trey Hendrickson of the Cincinnati Bengals.
“I truly don’t see a path forward for Trey Hendrickson and the Bengals at this point. The star pass-rusher is absolutely right in his stance that he deserves to be compensated for his production and the market value. Especially when you then factor in the rookie contract drama with Shemar Stewart, this situation feels far too messy to just end up with Hendrickson back with the Bengals,” Williams wrote. “And here come the Green Bay Packers ready to make that call. This defense under Jeff Hafley made strides but the most glaring need still there is a pass rush on the edge that has Rashan Gary and question marks. Green Bay would obviously have to get aggressive, especially if they’re going to outbid the rival Lions.”

This move would give the Packers exactly what they need — a proven veteran presence off the edge. With the cap space available to offer Hendrickson the deal he wants, Green Bay could not only secure a much-needed pass rush upgrade but also solidify their status as a true Super Bowl contender — if they can beat out Detroit for his services.
