Even for NFL teams, the draft can be a guessing game as to which prospects will produce at the next level. Some of the greatest players in NFL history have gone undrafted, so if you do not hear your name during draft weekend, it is still possible to have an outstanding career.
This is the path former Oregon Ducks safety Tysheem Johnson will have to travel as he was not selected through seven rounds and was signed by the Chicago Bears after the 2025 NFL draft. The Ole Miss transfer proved to be a ballhawk during his two seasons with Oregon, racking up five interceptions and seven passes defensed.
Despite his small frame at 5’5 and 195 pounds, Johnson was one of the most physical players on the team. He registered the second most tackles on the team with 67, which helped him become an All-Big Ten honorable mention.
Johnson will likely have to use his physicality and athleticism to make an impact on special teams. If he can become a key contributor in that phase of the game, he may be able to work his way into the defensive backfield at some point.
