NFL.com’s Tom Blair set out to build the best NFL roster while staying under the 2025 salary cap, and included was one member of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
“I embarked on a perfect July exercise,” wrote Blair, “building The Best Team Money Can Buy, assembling the most imposing 53-man roster I could under the 2025 NFL salary cap.”
The starting long-snapper on Blair’s team is the Jaguars‘ Ross Matiscik, who comes with a cap hit in 2025 of just $1.33 million.
“No need to overcomplicate things when it comes to the specialists,” wrote Blair. “Let’s round out the 53 with a pair of multi-time Pro Bowlers and former first-team All-Pros (Brandon Aubrey and Ross Matiscik).”
Of note, the Jaguars’ Brian Thomas Jr., who is on a rookie deal, does seem like a great fit for this cap-conscious roster. But instead, Blair went with Justin Jefferson, Puka Nacua, Ladd McConkey, Khalil Shakir, Nico Collins, and KaVontae Turpin at wide receiver.
Matiscik has been a Pro Bowler in each of the last two seasons. In 2023, he was a first-team All-Pro, while being named a second-team All-Pro in 2024.
