One Chargers tight end barely makes cut in top-32 ranking

The tight end has been a position of weakness for the Chargers over the last few years. It was a major need entering the offseason, and the front office tried its best to rectify it.

They signed veteran Tyler Conklin in free agency before the selection of Oronde Gadsden II in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft. It gives the Chargers several options at tight end now, which will still be led by Will Dissly.

Dissly occupied the final spot on PFF’s list of the top-32 tight ends in the NFL. PFF’s John Kosko reflected on the tight end’s value that he brings to the Chargers:

Dissly’s receiving profile is nothing to get excited about, but he is one of the best run blockers in the NFL at the position. His 72.3 PFF run blocking grade across the past two seasons ranks fourth among tight ends, helping him earn the 14th-best PFF overall grade.

In addition to his blocking prowess, Dissly had a career year in terms of receiving. The veteran had career highs in both catches (50) and receiving yards (481).

He did have some costly drops at times throughout the season, but he was a welcome addition overall. At 28 years old, he may not be the long-term guy, but he is the perfect stopgap in the meantime.

The Chargers will need more of the same from Dissly in 2025 while Gadsden gets accustomed to the NFL.
