The NBA is the business that never sleeps. The Oklahoma City Thunder have traded Dillon Jones and a 2029 second-round pick (via Houston) to the Washington Wizards for Colby Jones. The Thunder then waived Jones in a subsequent move.

Less than a week after they won the NBA championship, the Thunder have shuffled their roster. Jones spent one season in OKC. He averaged 2.5 points and 2.2 rebounds in 54 games. The 23-year-old gets a fresh start elsewhere as the rebuilding Wizards will surely give him a better chance at playing time.

Meanwhile, the Thunder made the trade to clear up a roster spot. Thomas Sorber’s addition required OKC to remove somebody from the 15-player roster. Jones was the one who got the short end of the stick.

The Thunder traded away five future second-round picks in last year’s draft to add Jones. With so much draft capital, OKC is afforded the luxury of overpaying in quantity. Even though the 23-year-old didn’t work out, it was still worth the risk.
