Since Josh Harris took over the Washington Commanders two years ago, the team has made all the right moves. They’ve improved the stadium, the team facilities, and have treated players well, bringing back disengaged legends while also making a massive leap in embracing the fan base.
However, on Friday, the team’s social media page took a page out of the previous regime’s playbook. The Commanders acknowledged the players who were either engaged or married this offseason on their social media pages. Here’s the photo:

Very nice, right?
There was a problem. Washington’s most popular star, not named Jayden Daniels, also got married this offseason. Terry McLaurin married his wife, Caitlin, in February. The Commanders didn’t acknowledge McLaurin’s marriage in this post. McLaurin is also involved in a contract dispute with the franchise, expressing his “disappointment and frustration” that a deal hasn’t yet come.
Washington fans immediately saw the omission and shared their frustration.
Here’s the thing: The Commanders shared a photo of McLaurin’s wedding back in February with the phrase, “introducing the McLaurins.”

Still, it’s a bad look. If McLaurin had already signed a new contract, this would likely receive little mention. He hasn’t. So, for the casual observers with no allegiance to Washington, it looks like a cold-hearted move. It’s not. Do you think Josh Harris, GM Adam Peters, or anyone in the front office told the social media team not to include McLaurin? Of course not. It’s a simple mistake from the social media team, and McLaurin is mature enough to understand that.
Former owner Dan Snyder was ruthless enough to have his underlings tell the social media not to acknowledge a player’s special moment. Former team president Jason Wright and his staff would just forget. This regime typically does neither. Just look at what the Commanders did for Art Monk this week.
In the grand scheme of things, this means nothing. So, no, the Commanders did not intentionally disrespect McLaurin. If and when Washington and McLaurin agree to terms on a new deal, no one will remember Friday’s social media post.
The Commanders officially report to training camp next week. Perhaps the two sides come together and get something done over the weekend to ensure McLaurin is on the field.
