NFL running back: New York Giants have 'best defensive line unit in football'

The New York Giants‘ defensive line is expected to take a massive leap this season with the addition of rookie Abdul Carter. He joins a unit that includes one of the best, if not the best, interior defensive linemen in the NFL in Dexter Lawrence, and 2024 trade acquisition Brian Burns.

With the expected improvements along the defensive line, analysts are beginning to talk about the Giants’ line as one of the best in the league.

Free agent running back Chase Edmonds was a guest on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” on Friday and talked about the Giants’ impressive defensive line unit.

“Give me Big Blue, the Giants. I’m going to make the case that the Giants can go from worst to first because I believe, arguably, they’ll have the best defensive line unit in football,” he said. “I get a really nostalgic 49ers feeling when the 9ers had drafted Nick Bosa with the second pick. Do you know where they ended up, Kyle, that year? They ended up in the Super Bowl.

“I’m not saying Big Blue is going to the Super Bowl but I do believe that with the best defensive line unit in football, you have a factor where you can have a lot of plays that just get messed up and that’s something that the X’s and O’s cannot solve.”

Of all teams, the Giants know how much of a game-changer a good defensive line can be.

In addition to Carter, Burns, and Dexter Lawrence, the Giants also have 2022 first-round pick Kayvon Thibodeaux, who will come into the season with extra motivation to prove his worth on the defensive line.

The defensive line may very well be one of, if not the best defensive line units in the NFL. However, the Giants’ schedule doesn’t do them any favors, nor does the division they are in.

There is plenty to be excited about for the 2025 season and plenty of players to watch. However, it would be hard to fathom the Giants going from fourth in the NFC East in 2024 to the top of the division in 2025.
