NFL roster cuts 2025: Seahawks rookie running back Damien Martinez waived

Roster cutdown day has made its first rookie draft class casualty for the Seattle Seahawks.

It was reported by CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz that 7th round running back, Damien Martinez, has been let go. Martinez, who played his college football at Oregon State before transferring to the University of Miami, would make sense to stash on the Seahawks practice squad if he is not claimed by another team.

Martinez struggled at times in preseason, showcasing some of his physical running style against the Kansas City Chiefs but otherwise not showing much effectiveness in the other two preseason games.

The Seahawks waiving Martinez likely indicates that the Seattle will likely stick with three running backs on their initial 53-man roster (along with fullback Robbie Ouzts). It looks like a near certainty that second-year running back George Holani, who was waived during last year’s roster cuts after losing out to Kenny McIntosh for the third-string role, will be on this year’s roster. Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet would be the other two backs.
