It’s been a couple of weeks since the 2025 NFL draft, and the Tennessee Titans have received a lot of praise for how they drafted. Mike Borgonzi and his team evaluated, analyzed, interviewed, and scrutinized prospective draft picks for who they thought would fit the best with this team. In the end, the players they selected all filled a need.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler has spent the last weeks speaking with NFL executives around the league and put together his thoughts on each team from what he learned in those conversations. Here’s what he learned about the Titans:
The top of the draft was easy for Tennessee. The Titans’ meetings with Cam Ward, from dinners to family encounters to quiz sessions on the offense, were what one source described as “a pretty stark difference” from the rest of the quarterback class. The Titans started to zero in on Ward in early April, which resulted in rebuffed trade offers.
After that, Tennessee eyed pass-rush help. Had Tennessee stayed at No. 35, I believe Boston College pass rusher Donovan Ezeiruaku would have been a prime option based on talks with teams. The Titans ended up trading back and selecting UCLA’s Oluwafemi Oladejo, who has high upside and the ability to stop the run, a staple of Dennard Wilson’s defenses. Multiple teams inquired about a potential trade, but Seattle made the best offer.
With two fourth-round receivers selected, Tennessee has now picked 10 receivers over the past five drafts. One of them from this year’s class, Elic Ayomanor, recorded 34 contested catches over the past two seasons. Ayomanor and fourth-round tight end Gunnar Helm should have a path to contributing early.
As more information is given about pre-draft experiences now that the draft is over, it’s become increasingly clear that the Titans made the right call in drafting Cam Ward. He was, by far, the top quarterback in this draft, and he will be able to start in year one.
But they didn’t stop there; they added protection for Ward, they added weapons for him, and they nabbed some defensive pieces. And don’t discount the players they’re bringing in as undrafted free agents, just because a player wasn’t drafted doesn’t mean he won’t be signed later, and Cam Ward’s favorite target at Miami (Xavier Restrepo) is on that list for the Titans.
For the first time in a long time, the talk around the Titans is largely positive, and now we need to see Brian Callahan take the pieces he was given and form a cohesive unit capable of winning games.
