It wasn’t long after the Tennessee Titans learned they’d have the top pick in the 2025 NFL draft that they announced they were open to trading down.
Before free agency, many thought the Titans would go after a veteran quarterback rather than seek one in the draft. However, as quarterbacks continue to be taken off their list of options, it has become clear that they plan to use the top pick to select Miami quarterback Cam Ward.
NFL draft expert Todd McShay recently released his third mock draft of the year, and he discussed it on The Todd McShay Show with guest Steve Muench.
“Tennessee, on the clock, first overall pick,” McShay said. “I don’t want to spend time on things that don’t need a lot of time spent on them. We’ve known it’s Cam Ward, the Miami quarterback, and I think the final straw was respectfully canceling the meeting with Shedeur’s camp and deciding not to put him through an unnecessary private workout.
“We knew it was Cam Ward, but we also knew the Shedeur aspect of it and Travis Hunter. That signaled that they’re not trading out either. It’s done. Because you’re going to do more due diligence with Shedeur if you’re considering trading out, and that’s just not going to happen.”
Ward is likely to be the top overall pick even if the Titans do trade down on draft day, but the fact that they haven’t answered the quarterback question is a problem. They need to select a quarterback in this draft, and Ward is the top quarterback on the board.
They have the first pick. If they don’t use it to select Ward, we may need to take a harder look at Chad Brinker and Mike Borgonzi, especially after canceling the meetings with Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter.
If the Titans had kept their meeting with the two Colorado players, trading down would still be considered an option. It’s also possible that Brinker and Borgonzi have seen enough of those two players to make an educated decision. It’s just far more likely that the Titans plan to draft Ward, and it will take some serious offers to get Tennessee out of that spot.
