The preseason is over, training camp has come to an end, and all 32 NFL teams have finalized their rosters. Mostly. Sort of. The initial 53-man rosters were due by 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, and on Wednesday, teams could claim players from the waiver wire. Once waivers were cleared, teams built their practice squads.
But that’s still not the end of the player movement ahead of the 2025 season. We’ve already seen the Dallas Cowboys trade Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers in a shocking, huge announcement, and other teams could make similar moves before the start of the season.
To that end, Bleacher Report named one bold trade prediction for every NFL team. For the Commanders, it’s a trade with the Indianapolis Colts for edge rusher Kwity Paye.
Indianapolis Colts Get: 2026 3rd-rounder, 2027 5th-round pick
Washington Commanders Get: EDGE Kwity Paye, 2026 7th-round pick
In July, the Commanders signed Von Miller in an effort to bolster their pass rush. While the move made sense for a team that lost its 2024 sack leader, Dante Fowler Jr., in free agency, Miller is a situational edge-rusher at this stage in his career.
Miller, 36, has played less than 34 percent of defensive snaps in the last two seasons. He can provide a boost in third-and-long situations, but the 15th-year veteran isn’t going to transform a mediocre pass rush that ranked 14th in pressure rate (22.6 percent) into a dominant unit.
Washington needs a young defensive end who can line up on all three downs to rush the pocket and stop the run.
Paye isn’t a marquee player, but he’s consistent and still has room for growth. The 26-year-old has logged at least eight sacks in back-to-back seasons and 10 tackles for loss in two of his four campaigns.
Indianapolis may not be willing to give Paye a new contract before he tests free agency next offseason. If rookie second-rounder JT Tuimoloau shows flashes this year, the Colts may listen to offers for Paye. Washington has the cap space flexibility to acquire and sign him to an extension.
While bringing Paye to Washington might be good for the Commanders now, look at what they are giving up. More draft picks. Adam Peters has already traded future draft picks for other veteran players. The Commanders are currently without second and fourth-round picks in the 2026 NFL draft; They had just five selections in the 2025 NFL draft.
Still, Peters somehow makes magic out of nothing to create a path to success for the Commanders. If he deems Paye worth two future draft picks and truly believes he can provide support on the edge, he will find a way to make it work.
