Ohio State and Alabama’s wide receivers Jeremiah Smith and Ryan Williams are 2 of the best in the nation, and projected to be high draft picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. But, an NFL analyst was left scratching his head when the two combined for 73 total yards during the college football Saturday. The Williams’ performance was more alarming to him.
Longtime NFL analyst Todd McShay would say, “Still scratching my head a bit that 2 of the best WRs CFB has seen in a few yrs — Jeremiah Smith and Ryan Williams — were held to 73 combined receiving yards in Week 1. I get it… Two 1st-yr starting QBs vs really good D’s. Just not what I expected, Williams’ performance was definitely more alarming.” Given that it is a bit early for the negativity, and both receivers are sure to ramp up their numbers and have productive years, McShay was doing his due diligence, it seems.
Jeremiah Smith and the Ohio State Buckeyes would get the win over the Texas Longhorns, and the Alabama Crimson Tide would lose in a bit of a shocker to the Florida State Seminoles. There is no reason for the alarm to be sounded across the NFL scouting department just yet, as plenty of teams in the NFL will require the services of such weapons as Williams and Smith come April of 2026 during the NFL Draft.
