Manchester City are edging closer to seeing their fate finalised in the chase for priority right-back target Tino Livramento this summer, according to new reports.

City’s pursuit of defensive reinforcements has increasingly pointed in the direction of Livramento in recent weeks, a player viewed as someone who could bring long-term security and dynamism to the right side of defence.

The England youth international has earned admirers at the Etihad Stadium over the course of the last few seasons in large part thanks to his versatility, ball-carrying ability, and natural composure in possession.

The 22-year-old, who joined Newcastle from Southampton in the summer of 2023, has already made a strong impression at St James’ Park, carving out valuable minutes for Eddie Howe’s side, underlining both his growing maturity and his vast potential at the top level.

Manchester City’s interest in the player stems not only from his technical qualities but also from a longer-term need to strengthen their full-back department amid doubts surrounding the abilities of Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis in the position following Kyle Walker’s exit.

However now, according to the information of GIVEMESPORT’s Sam Cohen and Ben Jacobs, Newcastle United are progressing in contract extension talks with Tino Livramento, in an agreement that would also include an improved salary.

From the side of Manchester City, it is claimed that Etihad Stadium officials continue to monitor the England youth international closely, with the 22-year-old viewed him as a long-term solution at right-sided full-back.

Newcastle have long been adamant that Livramento is not for sale, and talks are now progressing positively over a deal that ‘better reflects his status’ in the team, despite currently being contracted until the summer of 2028.

Should the proposed extension go through, it would represent a significant setback for City’s planning in the context of this particular pursuit. Livramento is not only under a lengthy existing contract, but a new deal would effectively eliminate any opportunity for a discounted deal in the immediate term.

There is also the possibility that City’s continued monitoring of the situation is a strategic move, intended to remain close to the player in the event of future developments, while keeping alternative options alive elsewhere.

Manchester City’s recruitment team, now headed by Hugo Viana following Txiki Begiristain’s departure, are believed to be eyeing multiple profiles for the right-back position, balancing proven Premier League talent with emerging players across Europe.

With Pep Guardiola using the likes of Nunes, Lewis, Manuel Akanji, Abdukodir Khusanov, and John Stones Stones in the right-back position, the need perhaps is not necessarily urgent, although City are conscious of the long-term evolution of their defensive structure.

Whether Newcastle’s latest move finally closes the door on Manchester City’s interest remains to be seen, but the message from St James’ Park has certainly become increasingly clear surrounding Tino Livramento.
