New York Liberty Among Top Teams in WNBA Power Rankings originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Times have been tough recently for the New York Liberty, who took it on the chin in a 79-70 loss at Barclays Center on Sunday to the Seattle Storm. A few more losses than wins have been happening in New York’s world, something that the team will have to address soon.
Despite this happening, the Liberty remain in the No. 4 position in the latest WNBA Power Rankings, according to The Athletic. A third-quarter surge from the Storm proved to be the Liberty’s undoing on their home court.
Seattle held New York guard Sabrina Ionescu to two points in the second half. Ionescu, who will be part of the WNBA All-Star Game, finished with 20 points against the Storm, according to the Seattle Times.

What about veteran Breanna Stewart? Seattle held her in check as she only hit 4 of 17 shots. Stewart ended up with just eight points, her lowest offensive output so far this season. Natasha Cloud added 12 for New York.

Gabby Williams led Seattle scorers with 16 points.
As the season rolls along, the defending WNBA champion Liberty need to do some soul searching. New York is 12-6 this season, putting them behind league-leading Minnesota for the best record in the WNBA.
“They came out and executed, and we didn’t,” Liberty coach Sandy Brondello said, the New York Post reported. “We didn’t have enough fight there, and to score six points, it’s not what we’re about.”
It was the Liberty’s sixth loss in nine games. Ionescu knows how important it is to stay in competition for the WNBA playoffs.
“We got to find ways to get wins,” Ionescu said Sunday. “It’s not about pointing fingers. People are out or in lineups we haven’t seen, defense we haven’t seen. It’s just understanding we [have] got to find a way to get a win.”
With Brondello looking for answers and Ionescu speaking out about the Liberty’s current situation, it might be time for New York to dial it up a notch.
