New York Giants training camp: 6 takeaways from Day 7

The New York Giants were back out on the field at their 2025 training camp after a day off on Wednesday. The heat has subsided, but only slightly, and the humidity is still high as storms were brewing in the area.

Here are six quick takeaways from Thursday’s workout.

Back to shirts and shorts

After two consecutive padded practices, the Giants were back in just jerseys and shorts.

Nabers back on the field

Wide receiver Malik Nabers, who left Tuesday’s workout with a shoulder issue, was back on the field on Thursday. Head coach Brian Daboll didn’t commit to any particular workload, just stating Nabers would do “some stuff.”

Nabers ended up taking on almost a full practice load and didn’t appear hampered in the least, making several big-time catches.

Tom Coughlin back at practice

Former Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, who delivered an inspirational speech to the team after Tuesday’s practice, was back for more on Thursday.

Two takeaways: He has resolved any issues he had with the owners, and he must see something he likes in this team.

Coughlin was seen holding a paper in his hand (likely a roster sheet with numbers). A neutral visitor really doesn’t need that information. Is he here for more than just a visit?

Skattebo not participating in drills

Rookie running back Cam Skattebo, who lit up the crowd earlier in the week with some electrifying plays, was not participating in team drills on Thursday, leading to speculation that he might be nursing some type of injury.

Nabers shines again

As noted earlier, Nabers was only going to do “some stuff” on Thursday, per head coach Brian Daboll. He has shoulder and toe issues going on, but apparently, that isn’t holding him back. Just ask cornerback Cor’Dale Flott…

Sloppy practice and punishment

The Giants have been rather sloppy on both sides of the ball throughout training camp, and that continued on Thursday with at least six pre-snap penalties. Understandably, head coach Brian Daboll wasn’t pleased.

Almost fittingly, with Coughlin in the house, Giants players were forced to run sprints and gassers after practice as punishment.

This has been a persistent issue in training camp and one of the only true negatives thus far.
