New Orleans Saints share good news after injury to special teams ace J.T. Gray

The New Orleans Saints had their first injury scare of the summer during Monday’s training camp practice when J.T. Gray left practice with a lower-leg issue, but it appears as though they were able to avoid a worst-case scenario.

Gray was present at practice during Tuesday’s walkthrough session, which is a good sign that the issue isn’t too serious. Saints head coach Kellen Moore stated at his press conference that the safety was “week-to-week” with a hamstring injury, per Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football.

The 29-year-old has been crucial to the Saints’ success on special teams. He has been with New Orleans since being picked up as an undrafted free agent back in 2018. Gray is a team captain and one of the top special teamers in the NFL; he has 103 career tackles, made one Pro Bowl, one All-Pro first team and two All-Pro second team nods in his career.

Gray is a veteran and should be cleared and ready for work at the start of the season, whether or not he ends up missing a couple of weeks of practice. As long as he is back and in shape for Week 1, this should be a low-stakes situation to monitor at Saints training camp.
