'Never say never' to Colorado legend Shedeur Sanders joining CFL's Toronto Argonauts if Browns part ways

Deion Sanders is set to coach his first collegiate season without his sons on the team. Recently, he was questioned about whether he truly enjoys coaching or if it was simply a means to help Shedeur reach the NFL.

“It’s going to get really difficult and Deion Sanders is going to have to make a real decision,” Quincy Avery said. “Was he doing this the whole time to prop his son up and help him become this top-tier quarterback, which he did, or does he want to do this because he really cares about the kids? He’s never coached a team in which his son did not play for. This is brand new to him; so we get to see who he is as a person when he has to take on this team without his sons involved.”

Shedeur Sanders is now with the Cleveland Browns, but he doesn’t appear to be in a position to start.

“I was told from somebody that’s in the building, that ain’t a player, it’s really coming down to Kenny Pickett or Dillon Gabriel,” TJ Houshmandzadeh said. “That’s what I was told.”

Interestingly, Sanders has also been placed on the Toronto Argonauts’ negotiation list. While his primary focus is currently on the NFL and the Browns, if things don’t work out in Cleveland, he already has a potential backup option in place. Although it’s unlikely at this point, CFL.ca’s Marshall Ferguson hasn’t ruled out the possibility.

“You already know the story and the bloodlines as Shedeur Sanders showed off million dollar watches to opposing student sections while enjoying his visit to Colorado with legendary dad Deion. Can you image the buzz around Sanders to Toronto? I can’t yet, but after falling all the way to the fifth round of the NFL Draft this year, never say never,” Ferguson wrote.

If Sanders ends up getting cut by the Browns—where his prospects currently look dim—he could join the Argonauts to prove he belongs. While it remains to be seen how the situation unfolds, one thing is clear: if Cleveland moves on, Sanders won’t be without options.
