MLB Sends All-Star Message to Blue Jays’ Vladimir Guerrero Jr. originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Toronto Blue Jays are in the middle of an interesting season. They sport a minus-10 run differential, yet boast a solid 41-36 record and sit in third place in an extremely competitive American League East.
Of course, there’s hope among the fan base that the Jays could bring home their first World Series victory since 1993, with much of that pressure falling onto the shoulders of first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
So far, he has performed well, and when the first All-Star voting tally came out June 16, it was revealed that he has the second-most votes of any first baseman in the AL, behind the New York Yankees’ Paul Goldschmidt.
However, on Monday, an update on those numbers revealed he was now in first place with Goldschmidt in second, which MLB commemorated with its own social media post, saying “Vlad Jr. is now leading AL 1B in All-Star voting.”

The result doesn’t come as much of a surprise, considering Guerrero has been effective, appearing in 76 games while accumulating 283 at-bats, 79 hits, 44 runs scored, 10 home runs, 39 RBIs, 45 walks and an .825 OPS.
If he does end up getting selected, it would add to an already impressive list of personal accolades Guerrero has collected since making his debut in 2019, including four All-Star appearances, two Silver Sluggers and one Gold Glove.
It would also be a good sign for the Blue Jays, considering they signed him to a 14-year, $500 million contract back in April, which made Guerrero the highest-paid player in franchise history and the third-highest in MLB.
