Inter Milan’s underwhelming attack in yesterday’s Serie A loss to Udinese contained worrying echoes of previous season’s problems.

Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, note how it continues to be the case that when Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram are misfiring, it drags down the team as a whole.

Inter Milan failed to find the back of the net against Udinese after Denzel Dumfries opened the scoring early on.

That was not for any lack of trying. After Udinese turned things around in the first half, the Nerazzurri chased the game and piled on the pressure for a goal.

However, in truth there were few telling chances. Udinese looked comfortable defending their penalty area. And Inter lacked real solutions, for all their possession.

Neither Lautaro Martinez nor Marcus Thuram managed to get on the scoresheet against Udinese.

The two strikers have always been key players for Inter.

And in the last couple season, the worry for the Nerazzurri is that when neither Martinez nor Thuram are at their most decisive, the team lacks a cutting edge in front of goal.

Both Martinez and Thuram capped off strong displays with goals against Torino on opening day.

However, against Udinese yesterday, the two strikers were not looking overly sharp.

The worry is that, going forward, every time Inter’s starting strikers are a bit off the pace, it will derail the team’s attack altogether.
