Norman North (OK) offensive tackleDaniel McMorris has announced his decommitment from the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The 6-foot-5, 265-pound three-star prospect announced his decision on social media on Monday.
“After long talks with my family and God, I’m ready to announce that I will be decommitting from the University of Minnesota,” McMorris said in his announcement.”I would like to personally thank Coach Callahan and Coach Fleck for giving me the opportunity to be a Gopher, and thank the whole Minnesota staff who recruited me through this process. I’m excited for what’s next, let everything fall into God’s hands.”
McMorris would further explain his decision to Chad Simmons of Rivals.
“I ultimately decommitted because I think there are better opportunities ahead of me,” McMorris told Simmons. “I’ve been thinking about it for a month or so, and I had to make sure it was the right decision. I think now is the right time.”
With his decommitment, the Gophers are not expected to factor into McMorris’s recruitment. Schools that are expected to be in his recruitment going forward includeGeorgia Tech, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech. He has an official visit to Texas Tech scheduled for later this month.
After having eight decommitments in the 2025 recruiting cycle, this is the first commitment the Gophers have had in the 2026 recruiting cycle. The Gophers now hold 23 commitments in their 2026 recruiting class which ranks 35th nationally and 11th in the Big Ten.
