Michigan State hockey’s recruiting is some of the best the country has to see, with the Spartans continuously nabbing some of the top targets in the nation. One of those prospects is Sebastopol (Calif.) native Jonas Kemps, a 2008 born prospect committed to MSU.
Kemps, who grew up playing AAA hockey for the Anaheim Jr. Ducks, spent last season with the U17 United States National Development Team. Now, this upcoming season, instead of moving on to the U18 team, Kemps will be headed to a different franchise in the USHL.
The Chicago Steel have acquired Kemps, and will receive the services of the future Spartan. A 6-foot-6, 185 pound left shot defenseman, this will be quality experience for the defenseman, who hopes to have a spot on the Spartans roster in 2026-27.
NEWS: I am told that defenseman Jonas Kemps will play with the Chicago Steel for the 2025-26 season. A Michigan State commit, Kemps had four points (all assists) with the NTDP U17s last year.@PuckPreps
