Make no mistake about it, last season was a tough one for Michigan State football. Head coach Jonathan Smith was tasked with overhauling a culture that had gone off the rails amid a high-profile scandal. To help kickstart the rebuild, Smith was able to bring in Aidan Chiles, his highly touted recruit from Oregon State, to take the reins at MSU. While Chiles flashed some of the best arm talent in the country, he was also working with a receiving corps that wasn’t known, outside of star freshman Nick Marsh, for running the best routes, and he often looked frazzled and sped up in the pocket behind a banged up offensive line.
Flash forward to July 29, 2025, and the opening day of camp for the Spartans. Jonathan Smith went out and grabbed three talented receivers in the portal, Rod Bullard, Omari Kelly, and Chrishon McCray, and also added a promising freshman in Braylon Collier (who has already been turning heads in camp).
By all accounts, Aidan Chiles has looked much more calm and confident on and off the field since the spring, and especially at camp on Tuesday. After camp, Chiles was asked about the team culture, to which he answered:
This is the closest team I’ve ever been on.
Asked about his new receivers, Chiles noted they are fast, and said:
It’s gonna be fun, for sure.
The hype train starts now for Michigan State in 2025.
