Michigan State football long snapper enters transfer portal

Last year, Michigan State football faced a sneakily important loss when starting long snapper Kaden Schickel went down with an injury. The Spartans turned to redshirt sophomore Jack Carson-Wentz to fill that void in the last four games of the season, to some mixed results, to put it kindly. On Wednesday, with the transfer portal’s spring window now open, Carson-Wentz entered his name into the portal and will seek a new school.

While it wasn’t exactly Carson-Wentz’s fault as he wasn’t expected to be relied on in that way, with injuries to long snappers being a more rare occurrence, it led to a lot of fumbled or muffed punt attempts, turning what has been a strength for MSU for years, with many fans jokingly calling Michigan State ‘Punter U’, into a weakness. A fresh start is probably best for all sides after a rough end of the season.
