Michigan State DB Malik Spencer talks expectations, new additions, and the offense

It’s day one of year two for Jonathan Smith’s Michigan State football team, as the Spartans kicked off training camp on Tuesday. There is a lot of excitement around the team this year following an encouraging spring session and a lot of incoming talent to the roster. After the media portion of the first day of camp, Michigan State safety Malik Spencer took the podium to give his take on what went wrong last year, his expectations for this year, and how the defense and offense are looking.

Emmett Matasovsky of Spartan Shadows was live posting the quotes out of the press conference, and you can see the notable ones below:

On the Cornerbacks

A sore spot at times last year, Malik Spencer noted the corners were playing well, especially Joshua Eaton and newcomer Anthony Pinnace III.

On the offense

“That offense, them boys are coming together.”

On the 2024 team falling short

On expectations and goals for 2025

“If we are not all playing for a national championship, what are we doing here?”

Spencer seems very high on the team this year and this should get MSU fans fired up for the fall.
