Fresh off Bryce Underwood’s debut vs. New Mexico to open the 2025 season on national TV, No. 14 Michigan football will occupy an even larger spotlight in Week 2.
Before the program plays its first true road game against an SEC oppoent, with a visit to Norman, Oklahoma, to face Oklahoma on Saturday, Sept. 6, it’ll experience the hoopla associated with ESPN’s “College GameDay” – the first airing of the show without legendary host and former Big Ten coach Lee Corso, who made his final telecast (and mascot-head donning) on Saturday, Aug. 30, ahead of No. 2 Ohio State’s 14-7 win over Texas.
It will be the first GameDay appearance for Michigan since Ann Arbor hosted the show a year prior – Week 2 of 2024, ahead of U-M’s loss to Texas, snapping a 16-game win streak. The Wolverines also played in a pair of Gameday games to end the 2023 season − both were at neutral sites, ahead of U-M’s win over Alabama at the Rose Bowl in the College Football Playoff semifinal, and ahead of its CFP title game win over Washington in Houston.
Michigan’s most recent “College GameDay” appearance on the road? That came on Nov. 26, 2022, in Columbus, Ohio, ahead of the final regular-season game of 2022; the Wolverines defeated Ohio State at Ohio Stadium for the first time in two decades.
And now the Wolverines will face an Oklahoma squad likely to move into the top 25 in the coaches poll after a 35-3 season-opening win over FCS-level Illinois State. Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer, in his first game after transferring from Washington State, diced up the Redbirds, completing 30 of 37 passes for 392 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also ran seven times for 24 yards and a score.
