Micah Parsons, Cowboys Wake Up To Big Contract News

It’s been a while since we last heard about Micah Parsons and his contract situation.

The young pass-rusher is in for a big contract, and he made it loud and clear that he’s not going to suit up and play unless he puts pen to paper.

Nevertheless, as much as that fueled speculation about his future with the organization, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN believes there’s nothing to be worried about, as the lack of updates is just a part of the Cowboys’ m.o.

“Yeah, so this is kind of a relaxed situation,” Fowler said. “When I talk to people involved, they’re like, ‘It’s a lull in the summer right now. Not a lot going on. People are on vacation. Team officials are out on the beat somewhere. Once they reconvene for training camp, Dallas will probably lock in on this a little bit.”

Fowler claimed that Jerry Jones will most likely do what he’s done with other big-name players in the past and get Parsons signed closer to the beginning of the season:

“More typically, they do their deals late in the calendar, late August, early September,” Fowler said. “We’ve seen that with CeeDee Lamb, Dak Prescott, got some of their big deals. They are dedicated to doing this, through. This guy’s right in his prime, mid-20s, dangerous player. So he’s going to get a massive number. Just depends on when they do it. Shouldn’t be a problem.”

Parsons is one of the most disruptive defenders in the game, not to mention one of the faces of the franchise, so his continuity shouldn’t be in question.

Then again, after watching Myles Garrett and Ja’Marr Chase set new records for the highest-paid non-quarterbacks in NFL history, waiting for longer will only cost the Cowboys more.

If anything, they must make sure to get him signed before T.J. Watt agrees to his contract extension and drives his value even higher.
