Meadville/Saegertown wins district championship in dominant performance

The Meadville/Saegertown Little League baseball team beat Cambridge/Mid-East 10-0 on Saturday to claim the district trophy.

Meadville/Saegertown, the French Creek Allstars, got a dominant pitching performance from Griffin Crum. Crum struck out 11 in four and a half innings of work with two hits allowed and no walks.

Offensively, French Creek had 12 hits. Tanner Schultz and Crum each had two hits. Emmett Redden, Cam Howe, Paxton Urbanick, Mav Adkins, Cash Brown, Ryan Feleppa, Drew Young and Luke Roberts each added one hit.

Crum had three RBIs and a double. Schultz also had a double.

In the bottom of the fifth with a 6-0 lead, Young doubled to center to score Carter Ogello. After a Roberts walk and a Schultz single, Crum smacked a liner to center field for a double that scored Roberts and Young. Crum scored the 10th run of the game to force the mercy rule on a wild pitch.

The win capped off a dominant tournament performance for Meadville/Saegertown. They defeated Cambridge/Maplewood 12-2 in game one and blanked Cochranton in the second game. Crum started game one as well and fanned seven in a four-inning complete game with seven strikeouts.

Meadville/Saegertown will compete in the Section 1 tournament from July 12-16 hosted by LeBoeuf Little League.
