Massive Trade Idea Floated Has Celtics Part With Jaylen Brown originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
After trading away multiple key players, the Boston Celtics are still looking for different ways to shed salary. Boston entered the offseason needing to cut salary off the books, and they have proceeded to make multiple moves.
But the team is still receiving calls about star forward Jaylen Brown. Boston has resisted trading Brown to this point, but if they were to get a godfather-type offer, the Celtics may want to consider moving him.
Getting off his large salary could help set up the Celtics going forward. One trade idea has the Celtics move Brown to a rival in the Eastern Conference.
NBA writer Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report named the Atlanta Hawks as a suitor for Brown if Boston moved him.
“The Hawks have been linked to Brown, a Georgia native, for years now. While the development of their young core has perhaps dampened their enthusiasm for a win-right-now target like Brown, it’s also possible that those young pieces now give Atlanta an asset collection strong enough to at least seriously consider the possibility. And since Brown is only two years older than Trae Young, it’s not as if he’s a totally poor timeline fit for this team,” Buckley wrote.
Pairing Brown with Trae Young is an interesting duo, and could give Atlanta a real chance in the East. The Hawks also brought in former Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis, so Atlanta could build something special this offseason.
It would take a lot to land Brown, but the Hawks seem to be making win-now moves. After another disappointing season, Atlanta’s front office has been working hard this summer to put together a strong team.
Boston could likely net some strong future assets in any deal for Borwb, but the Hawks do have some interesting players. Zaccharie Risacher, Onyeka Okongwu, Dyson Daniels, or Jalen Johnson could be included in a deal for both.
Everything would depend on what the Celtics wanted from the Hawks, but this could be an interesting pairing. Atlanta would be a strong landing spot for the Celtics’ star, but for now, it seems he will stay in Boston.
