The New England Patriots caught a major break with the follow-up news to All-Pro cornerback Christian Gonzalez’s training camp injury.
According to Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz, Gonzalez suffered a hamstring injury that is not expected to be a long-term issue. He is expected to be available for Week 1 of the regular season.
The injury occurred during the 11-on-11 period when Gonzalez was covering veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs. He was later seen limping off the field under his own power with the training staff. This is obviously great news for the Patriots considering Gonzalez is one of their best players.
Not having him for the season opener would have been a tough blow for the team.

Gonzalez is coming off an All-Pro season and hopes to solidify an improved secondary, which added veteran corner Carlton Davis in free agency. However, Davis has also been out in training camp.
With Gonzalez and Davis both sidelined, the Patriots have been practicing without their top two corners. If anything, it gives more opportunities for other players to shine on the practice field.
