On the Cleveland Browns

To the editor: Let’s read between the lines of Michael Arace’s recent article regarding the future of the Cleveland Browns stadium. First of all, don’t be fooled by his love of Browns football and the “vibrance” of downtown. Year after year, Arace continues to trash the Browns for his deep-seated love of the Bengals. Secondly, I did not see anything about the Cleveland politicians being accountable for providing a detailed plan for a remodeled Huntington Bank Field. The HSG organization has continually requested a comprehensive and viable plan for the “lakefront transformation” and it’s proposed funding. Jimmy Haslam has referred to this as Plan B. However, city officials once again cannot come up with it. As a Browns season-ticket holder for 25 years, I am all in for a downtown solution, but let’s face it, there isn’t one. Cuyahoga County and city officials are incapable of creating one while they point fingers at the only viable option.

Ned Lindsey

To Ned: Arace’s love for the Bengals must be extremely deep-seated, because I’ve never heard of it, and I don’t think he has, either. What I do know is that he gets upset when he believes the public is being scammed and taken advantage of.

On golf holes-in-one

Hi Brian: I really enjoyed reading your consecutive hole-in-one article. It brought back great memories for me, as my dad and I had back-to-back holes in one on Oct. 1, 1983, at Tanglewood Golf Course, just south of Delaware. We both aced No. 11, a 206-yard par-3. Dad was first, and then I lucked out and my shot went in, too. It was the only ace in my career (I’m 66 now). This was Dad’s first hole-in-one, but he went on the have three more in his golfing career. He passed in 2016. I sure miss him and THANKS FOR MEMORIES. Your article hit home as it is just before Father’s Day.

On best athletes born in Ohio

To Brian: Just want to drop you a quick note regarding Rob Oller’s article titled “Homegrown.” He missed boxer’s Ray Boom Boom” Mancini and Harry Arroyo. Both athletes born in Youngstown. Both were world champions. No idea how he could have missed them.

Rick Wilkes

Reds great Pete Rose holds a star bearing his name before the MLB National League game between the Cincinnati Reds and the San Diego Padres at Great American Ball Park in downtown Cincinnati on Friday, June 24, 2016.

On Pete Rose

To Brian: So, Pete Rose, Joe Jackson and 15 others get a big “never mind” from baseball. If you believe Jackson was only peripherally involved in throwing a World Series, what about others also being reinstated, including ringleader Chick Gandil? If you think Pete Rose only bet on baseball after becoming manager, you are lying to yourself as if that made any difference anyway. And I wish gambling was his worst indiscretion.

We’ve also recently learned that a college football program that cheated over three years to win dozens of games and multiple championships was given the severe penalty of a slap on the wrist. SMU never had one game vacated despite the rampant corruption in their program years ago. Others have had vacated games restored despite egregious violations, and Rick Pitino is allowed to still coach basketball. But whenever the Buckeyes jaywalk, you can be certain they will be sentenced to life in front of a firing squad.

Say it ain’t so, Joe.
