Lumberjacks tally 4 runs in 7th inning for dramatic win over Thunderhawks

Apr. 17—GRAND RAPIDS — The Lumberjacks needed two runs to tie Grand Rapids in the seventh inning.

They got four.

The Bemidji High School softball team rallied in the final inning for a dramatic 6-4 road win over Grand Rapids on Thursday evening, improving to 2-0 on the season.

Jordan Pemberton sent Ridley Hadrava home on a sacrifice fly to kick off the seventh-inning rally. Sammy Nistler sacrificed on the next at bat to send Brooke Snobl home, but she still managed to reach base thanks to an error by the catcher.

Karley LaZella knocked a double to center field to send Nistler home and take a 5-4 lead. The Jacks snagged one more run after Schmidt ground into a fielder’s choice to send Matjea Maulterud home.

LaZella had a solid night in the circle for Bemidji, pitching a complete game while notching nine strikeouts. She allowed three hitts, four runs (one earned) and issued five walks.
