LSU Star Gymnast Announces Return to Baton Rouge for Another Year originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
When the LSU gymnastics season came to an end at the NCAA championships in Fort Worth, it was believed at the time that ten gymnasts would not be returning in 2026. The NCAA rules on eligibility can be complicated. We knew that at least two gymnasts could potentially be given another year to compete but we didn’t know what their level of interest was for coming back to school.
After having surgery in May, Alexis Jeffrey has announced her intention to once again compete for the Tigers. In May Alexis said, “It’s been a challenging journey with my back but I’m holding on to faith and trusting God’s perfect timing. I’m grateful to say [that] my back surgery went smoothly. Thank you to my doctors and everyone who kept me in their thoughts and prayers throughout this journey. Everyone’s support means so much to me. The road to recovery begins now and I’m looking forward to what lies ahead!”
This week, LSU gymnastics put out a video in which Alexis expressed gratitude to her family, coaches, teammates and fans. It had the feel of her saying goodbye to Baton Rouge but then, about a minute in, she flips the switch and says, “Y’all didn’t think I was done, did you?”

The LSU senior looked to be in great spirits as she was seen in Omaha cheering on boyfriend Tanner Reeves to a National Championship.
Alexis will now continue her recovery as we’re still more than six months away from the start of the 2026 gymnastics season.
